FLORENCE, S.C. – Anthony Campbell of Belton has been accepted as an intern with Project Vote Smart, a nonpartisan citizens’ organization dedicated to serving all Americans with accurate and unbiased information for electoral decision-making.
Campbell will graduate from FMU with a bachelor’s degree in political science Dec. 13. His 10-week internship will begin in February at PVS headquarters in Philipsburg, Mont.
Through its website, PVS provides a comprehensive database about thousands of candidates and elected officials for U.S. president, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, governors and state legislators. Less detailed information is available at the county and local level for each state. PVS also operates a hotline, 1-888-VOTE-SMART.
During the internship, Campbell will help maintain the database, staff the hotline, and participate in research, among other activities.
Campbell heard about the internship opportunity from FMU political science professor David White.
Next fall, Campbell plans to attend graduate school and pursue a master’s degree in public administration. “In the meantime, I wanted to get hands-on exposure to a grassroots organization,” he said. “Project Vote Smart provides a wonderful service and the internship will be a great experience.”
