FMU's Wages Receives Gubernatorial Appointment

     FLORENCE---Charlene Wages of Florence, a professor of psychology at Francis Marion University, has been appointed by Gov. Mark Sanford to the Advisory Committee to Study the Goals of the Commission on Women.

     In making the appointment, Gov. Sanford said, “I am certain your hard work will make a difference in our collective efforts to make state government more efficient and more accessible to all South Carolinians.”

     The Commission on Women was established in 1971 to enhance the quality of life for all South Carolinians by promoting equality of opportunity for women and their families.  The commission advises the governor on matters related to the needs of women in South Carolina.

     A native of Atlanta, Ga., Wages has been a member of the FMU faculty since 1986.  She is currently serving as chair of the faculty.  She earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia and master’s and doctoral degrees at Georgia State University.
