FMU Trustees To Meet July 18

     FLORENCE---The Francis Marion University Board of Trustees will hold its summer retreat and organizational meeting Friday, July 18, on campus.

     The summer meeting is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. in the President’s Room of Ervin Dining Hall.  The major item of business will be the adoption of the university’s 2003-2004 budget projected at $29.8 million.

     The trustees will also consider a resolution authorizing the creation of a non-profit real estate/housing foundation for the university.

     Following lunch, the trustees will participate in the dedication of the Ashpy Lowrimore Auditorium in Cauthen Media Center.  An anonymous donor gave the funds to renovate the auditorium in Lowrimore’s name.

     The retreat will kick off at 9:30 a.m. in the Arundel Room of Rogers Library with opening remarks by new chairman, Gail Ness Richardson.  President Fred Carter will give a university overview at 9:45 a.m., followed by a faculty perspective by Charlene Wages, chairman of the faculty, at 10 a.m. and an update on university athletics at 10:15 a.m. by Murray Hartzler, athletic director.

     Organizational meetings of the board’s committees are scheduled at 10:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.
