FLORENCE, S.C. – Dorothy Harris, a professor of education at Francis Marion University, was presented with the First Steps Early Care and Education Advocate Award at the group’s third-annual awards luncheon in Columbia recently.

 The Early Care and Education Advocate Award is given to an individual or organization that has consistently demonstrated support for quality early care and education.

 “Dorothy Harris is truly deserving of this honor and we are especially grateful for her guidance and leadership to the Florence County First Steps Partnership Board,” said Madie Robinson, who chairs the board.

 Harris joined the FMU faculty in 1985. She is the coordinator of FMU’s early childhood education program. She received the B.A. degree from Johnson C. Smith University, the M.A. degree from Atlanta University, and the Ed.D. degree from the University of Georgia.
