FLORENCE, S.C. – Terry Williams has been named the Francis Marion University School of Business Outstanding Alumnus for 2003.
The award was presented during a breakfast on Feb. 28.
Williams graduated from FMU in 1977 with degrees in business administration and mathematics. Upon graduation, he worked with the Internal Revenue Service for nine years, in positions ranging from Internal Revenue agent to audit group manager. His last three years with the IRS were spent training newly hired agents and working with the U.S. Justice Department as an expert witness in criminal trials.
After leaving the IRS in 1986, Williams formed the CPA firm of Williams, Gee & Co., PA, in Columbia. In addition to his CPA practice, in 2000, Williams and three partners formed the sports management firm of Vortex Sports and Entertainment Inc. The firm currently represents 20 National Football League and Major League Baseball players.
In addition to being a certified public accountant, Williams is also licensed as a securities broker and as a registered agent with the NFL and MLB. He is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the South Carolina Tax Council.
He has served on the board of directors of the Greater Columbia Home Builders Association Charitable Foundation, Birthright of Columbia and the Hampton Area Home Owners Association.
Williams has also been a member of the FMU Alumni Advisory Board and the FMU School of Business Advisory Board. In 1995, he was named FMU’s Alumnus of the Year.
