FMU to celebrate Homecoming 2003 on March 1

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University will celebrate Homecoming 2003 on Saturday, March 1.

The day will begin with a campus tour at 11 a.m., departing from the steps of the James A. Rogers Library. Also at 11 a.m., the women’s basketball Old Timers’ Game will tip off, followed by the men’s basketball Old Timers’ Game at 11:30 a.m.

At noon, Patriot Fest will begin on the lawn between the Smith University Center and the library. Alumni can enjoy lunch at the All-American Food Fest while reminiscing with former professors and fellow graduates. Music will be performed by The Jam Association, which specializes in country, blues, R&B, and classic rock. Patriot Fest will include activities for the whole family, including face painting, spin-art Frisbees, old-time photos and more.

From noon to 5 p.m., alumni can take advantage of a 20-percent discount on selected items at the Patriot Bookstore. The FMU baseball team will be in action, playing host to USC Aiken for a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. on Cormell Field. From 1:30 to 5 p.m., a Silent Auction will be held in the Smith University Center gymnasium. Bids on exclusive items will support Patriot athletic scholarships.

A basketball doubleheader with Clayton College & State University will begin with the women’s game at 2 p.m. and the men’s game at 4 p.m. During halftime of the women’s game, the 1982 FMU women’s basketball team – the first Patriot team to win a national championship – will be honored. Prior to the men’s game, this year’s candidates for the FMU Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted. During halftime of the men’s game, the 2003 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned.

At 6:30 p.m., in the Smith University Center commons, a Live Athletic Auction and Gala will begin, featuring music and heavy hors d’oeuvres. Participants will have the chance to bid on vacation packages and rare sports memorabilia. An admission fee will be charged.
