FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University volleyball team and women’s soccer team will host invitational tournaments this weekend, while the 21st-ranked Patriot men’s soccer squad will be on the road.
The FMU volleyball team will play host to the eight-team Joseph B. DuRant Memorial Invitational Tournament, Friday and Saturday (Sept. 5-6) in the Smith University Center. Two matches will be played simultaneously on Friday at 1, 3, 5, and 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 and 4 p.m.
On Friday, FMU (1-3) will face unbeaten Barton College (3-0) at 3 p.m. and Anderson College (1-4) at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Francis Marion will play Lenoir-Rhyne College (2-2) at noon and St. Andrews Presbyterian College (1-4) at 4 p.m.
The 1-1 FMU women’s soccer team will play host to the third-annual FMU Invitational, Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, USC Spartanburg (0-1-0) will meet Queens University of Charlotte (1-1-0) at 1 p.m. and FMU will play Lees-McRae College (1-1-0) at 4 p.m. Sunday’s slate has USCS and FMU swapping opponents with USCS facing Lees-McRae at 1 p.m. and Francis Marion battling Queens at 4 p.m.
Saturday’s match will be the home opener for first-year FMU head coach Marty Beall. In eight seasons, the Patriot women have compiled a 60-8-2 mark on the FMU Soccer Field.
The undefeated FMU men’s soccer team (2-0-0) will play at Queens University of Charlotte, Saturday at noon.
