Ackman Earns All-District Academic Volleyball Honor

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior outside hitter Jackie Ackman has been selected to the Verizon Academic All-District III College Division women’s volleyball team for the second straight year.

This awards program is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  District III includes Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and North and South Carolina.

The All-District team is comprised of first-, second-, and third-teams that include 21 student-athletes from 16 different schools.  Ackman, who was named to the second team, is one of four members from South Carolina institutions, and she was the only Peach Belt Conference athlete selected.

Ackman, a native of Bartlett, Ill., is majoring in biology and owns a 3.974 grade point average.  She is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and following each of her first two years at Francis Marion was named to both the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll and FMU’s Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll.  She has been named to the FMU President’s List after each of her four semesters.

On the court this past season, she played in 33 matches and was third on the team in digs per game (2.21 per game).  She recorded 166 kills (1.5 per game), a .071 hitting percentage, 27 assists (0.24 per game), 33 service aces (0.3 per game), and 26 total blocks (0.23 per game).

A young Francis Marion squad (only one senior) concluded the 2003 campaign with an 11-24 record.

Ackman is a product of Elgin High School, where she played for coaches Bob Hope and Ben Anzelc.
