FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University women’s basketball team will play a pair of games this weekend at the Eckerd College Classic in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The unbeaten Patriots (2-0) will face the host Tritons (2-1) on Friday at 3 p.m. in Eckerd’s 1,500-seat McArthur Center. On Saturday, FMU will play the University of Tampa (2-1) at 11 a.m.
Through the opening two games, Francis Marion has four players scoring in double figures: sophomore forward Danielle Moore (13.5 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game), junior guard Jennifer Howard (13.0 ppg), senior forward Joanna Tincher (11.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg), and senior 6-2 center Marta Losonczy (10.0 ppg). Tuesday’s 82-70 win at Presbyterian College snapped a 12-game road losing streak for the Patriots.
Eckerd, a member of the Sunshine State Conference, owns wins over Barber-Scotia College and the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, while the Tritons’ lone loss was a 66-46 decision to Brewton-Parker College.
Upon returning from Florida, the FMU squad will break for final exams before playing host to Wingate University on Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
