FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University women’s tennis coach Garth Thomson has announced that Elizabeth Lee of Florence signed a national letter of intent during the recent early signing period. Lee will play for the Patriots in the fall of 2004.
Lee, a 5-8 right-hander, is a senior at Trinity Collegiate School, and she plays under the direction of coaches Meri Lyn Rogers, Larry Rizzo, Chris Graham, and Richard Warrin.
As a senior this fall, she helped lead Trinity to the SCISA Region III title and the A-AA state championship. She played No. 1 singles and doubles for the Lady Titans. She is a four-time All-Conference performer, and has been selected her team’s most valuable player several times.
According to the 2002 VSTA rankings, she was 53rd in the Southern rankings, 303rd in the national 18’s, and 225th in the national 16’s.
“I am thrilled to have Liz join our program,” Thomson said. “She has had a very successful junior career, and I feel she will step in and help us immediately.”
Francis Marion finished the 2003 season ranked 35th in NCAA Division II with a 12-8 record. All eight defeats were to nationally ranked opponents. FMU opens its 2004 campaign Jan. 31 at home against North Greenville College.
