FLORENCE, S.C. – Following a three-game sweep at the hands of the nation’s top-ranked team, the Francis Marion University baseball team dropped nine positions to No. 21 in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine’s NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, released on Monday (Feb. 24).
FMU (9-5) will travel to St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. game, before returning home to host a three-game Peach Belt Conference series with 22nd-ranked USC Aiken on Friday and Saturday. The two teams will play a single game on Friday at 6 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
This is the third consecutive week FMU has appeared in the poll. The Patriots first appeared at No. 15, and then moved up to 12th position (equaling their highest ranking ever) in last week’s poll.
Kennesaw State University remains in the No. 1 position following its sweep of the Patriots. FMU lost the three games by a combined 34-3 score, and managed only 19 hits in 25 innings against the Owls. After losing a close 2-0 decision on Friday, KSU easily swept Saturday’s doubleheader, 7-1 in game one and 25-2 in game two.
Eight of the 11 Peach Belt Conference schools that sponsor baseball appear in this week’s poll.
