MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Francis Marion University sport psychologist Tom Dorsel tied for third place in the senior division at the recent 50th-annual Golf Writers Championship Golf Tournament.
This national event is sponsored by the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA) and is held annually in Myrtle Beach prior to The Masters. More than 160 writers participated in the three-day event that was played on three Grand Strand courses.
Dorsel is a member of the GWAA as a result of his being on the staff of Golf Illustrated, the oldest golf publication in the country. His work has appeared in every issue for the past six years. In each of the past three years, his articles have been selected for awards by the International Network of Golf.
Dorsel previously served on the staffs of GOLF Magazine and GOLFWEEK, and
has also been published in Golf Digest. He has written two books, “The Complete Golfer:
Physical Skill and Mental Toughness” and “Putting Machine,” as well as having made 10 appearances in instructional features on ESPN’s “Inside the PGA Tour.”
Dorsel is completing his 17th year as a faculty member at Francis Marion University, while continuing to serve as a national sport psychology consultant and speaker, particularly in the area of golf. Prior to coming to FMU, he taught for 12 years at Western Carolina University. In 1997, Dorsel served as a full-time sport psychology consultant to the University of Notre Dame athletic program.
