FLORENCE, S.C. – After splitting six games last week, the Francis Marion University baseball team dropped 11 positions to 27th in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, and Monday evening’s non-conference game with Alice Lloyd College was postponed by rain.
The game with Alice Lloyd will most likely not be made up, as the Kentucky school is only in South Carolina this week for a spring break trip.
The 16-10 Patriots were enjoying a 3-1 week until losing a Peach Belt Conference twinbill at unranked USC Spartanburg on Saturday afternoon. All three FMU losses last week were on the road.
This is the sixth consecutive week FMU has appeared in the poll. The Patriots have been ranked as high as No. 12.
Florida Southern College maintained its grip on the No. 1 position with a 23-3 record. Six Peach Belt Conference schools are again ranked in this week’s poll.
Francis Marion plays at local-rival Coker College on Wednesday in a 2:30 p.m. game.
This weekend, FMU will take a respite from PBC play by playing host to a three-game series with West Virginia State College. The squads will play single games Friday (3 p.m.), Saturday (1 p.m.), and Sunday (1 p.m.) afternoons.
The Patriots are currently fourth in the Peach Belt standings with a 9-7 mark.
