FMU Professor Receives Fourth International Golf Award

FLORENCE, S.C. – For the fourth consecutive year, Francis Marion University psychology professor Tom Dorsel has been named a recipient of an “Outstanding Achievement Award” presented by the International Network of Golf (ING) at that organization’s 2003 Media Awards.

Dorsel earned the award in the Instruction Writing category for his article “The 9 R’s of Good Golf.”  The announcement was made at ING’s 13th-annual spring conference at the Keystone Resort in Colorado.

Dorsel’s articles, dealing with the mental aspect of golf, have appeared in Golf Illustrated for the past six years.  Other ING award winners came from such publications as Golf Illustrated, Links Magazine, Golf Magazine, and GOLFWEEK.

Prior to joining the FMU faculty 17 years ago, Dorsel taught for 12 years at Western Carolina University.  He earned degrees from the Universities of Notre Dame, Kentucky, and New Mexico, and completed a post-doctoral internship in clinical psychology at the University of California at Davis Medical Center.  He is a past president of the South Carolina Psychological Association.

He has written and co-authored several books and 10 of his instructional features have appeared on ESPN’s “Inside the PGA Tour” series.
