FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced the signing of right-handed hitting outfielder Nick Stewart of Greenville to a national letter of intent to attend FMU this fall and play for the Patriots.
Stewart is a product of Greenville High School, where he played under the direction of head coach Dave Delgado.
As a senior, he batted .512 with 18 doubles, eight triples, nine home runs and 42 runs batted in. The 6-4 215-pounder earned All-Conference recognition as a third baseman in 2002 and as a center fielder this past season. He also played football and wrestled at Greenville High School.
“Nick is a big strong multi-talented player, who can run, throw, and hit,” said Inabinet. “He comes from a strong program headed by Coach Delgado. Nick is also a great student, and I look forward to having him represent FMU both on and off the field.”
Stewart joins a pair of left-handed pitchers, Brandon McClure of St. George and Lee Tabor of Manning, who signed during the early signing period last fall.
Francis Marion finished last season with a 30-20 record, placed third during the Peach Belt Conference regular season, and earned an invitation to the NCAA Division II national tournament, where the Patriots finished third at the South Atlantic Regional.
