First Tuesday concert to feature pianist Benjamin Woods

Pianist Benjamin Woods will give a recital as part of Francis Marion University's First Tuesday Arts Event, Sept. 7.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in the Hyman Fine Arts Center's Kassab Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Woods will present a lecture recital on a work by Johannes Brahms, Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Opus 24. Woods is a professor of music at FMU.

Whenever the university calendar permits, the first Tuesday of each month is designated to showcase the arts on campus with art-exhibit viewing and a chamber music concert.

In the Hyman Fine Arts Center gallery is the 2004 Visual Arts and Art Education Alumni Invitational, bringing FMU graduates back to campus to display their recent work in painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, photography and graphic design.

In the Smith University Center gallery is "Nature Observed," a series of paintings and drawings from nature by artist and FMU biology instructor Stephen M. Welch.
