FMU Planetarium to Reopen on Sept. 11-12

    FLORENCE, S.C. – Following a summer renovation project, the Dooley Planetarium on the campus of Francis Marion University will reopen with a pair of public shows, titled “A Celestial Soap Opera,” Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11-12.

    The program will begin at 3 p.m. on both days and admission is free. The planetarium,  located on the second floor of the Cauthen Educational Media Center, will open its doors at 2:30 p.m., and no admittance will be allowed once viewing begins.

    Planetarium director Jeannette M. Myers said the program is based on an original script written by Ed Dooley, the planetarium’s first director, and will highlight the recent improvements to the facility.

    Since its opening in 1978, the planetarium has regularly shown public programs on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.
