FMU Planetarium to show "The Star Next Door," Oct. 24

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Dooley Planetarium on the campus of Francis Marion University will present a program titled “The Star Next Door,” Sunday, Oct. 24.

The program will begin at 3 p.m. and admission is free. The planetarium, located on the second floor of the Cauthen Educational Media Center, will open its doors at 2:30 p.m., and no admittance will be allowed once viewing begins.

According to planetarium director Jeannette M. Myers, this program will present an up close look at the star next door to Earth – the sun.  The program will discuss how our sun is like the stars in the night sky, and how it is different.

Since its opening in 1978, the planetarium has regularly shown public programs on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.  The Nov. 14 program will be titled “Yardsticks of the Universe.”

For additional information about the planetarium, call Myers at 843-661-1441, or visit its website at
