Some major recommendations about the future of the Francis Marion University athletic program are expected when the university’s Board of Trustees are presented a report from an Athletic Study Committee at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, during its quarterly meeting in Stokes Administration Building Board Room.
The committee was appointed by FMU President Fred Carter in June to study the future of FMU athletics. He charged the committee with making recommendations on three topics: (1) the divisional status of the athletic program, (2) the conference affiliation and (3) the appropriate mix of intercollegiate sports offered by FMU.
The trustees also will consider two resolutions—one to approve a $360 salary increase for all permanent employees to help offset an increase in health insurance rates for state employees and one to approve an addendum to the loan agreement with the FMU Foundation for the endowed Palmetto Professor of Biology and the Palmetto Professor of Accounting.
