Swamp Fox Writing Project at FMU announces winners of Langston Hughes writing contest
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Swamp Fox Writing Project at Francis Marion University has announced the winners of its Langston Hughes writing contest. The purpose of the contest was to celebrate African-American writer Langston Hughes.
There were three categories in the contest: Elementary School (grades 4-6), Middle School (grades 6-8), and High School (grades 9-12). Topics and formats varied by category.
Winners, along with their school, are as follows:
Elementary School
First place: Justin Brockington, Brunson-Dargan Elementary School
Second place: Lauren Burt, Montessori School of Florence
Third place: Lakesha Thompson, Greeleyville Elementary School
Honorable Mention: Alana Tomlin, Brunson-Dargan Elementary School
Middle School
First place: Jevonta Henderson, J.V. Martin Junior High School
Second place: Raquis McGill, J.V. Martin Junior High School
Third place: Shannon Carr, Wallace Middle School
High School
First place: Candy Murray, Marion High School
Second place: Angela Huffman, Marion High School
Third place: Kimberly Turner, West Florence High School
