FLORENCE---Burton Kaufman of Oxford, Ohio, professor emeritus of history at Miami University of Ohio, will lecture twice next week at Francis Marion University.
On Monday, April 5, Kaufman will be speaking on "Approaches to Interdisciplinary Studies," at 7 p.m. in Lowrimore Auditorium of the Cauthen Media Center. On Tuesday, April 6, he will be speaking to a Korean War class on "Harry Truman as Wartime Leader” in 213-C Founder’s Hall at 8:30 a.m. Both lectures are open to the public.
Father of Scott Kaufman, FMU assistant professor of history, he was previously director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and then, from 1998-2003, he served as dean of Western College of Miami of Ohio. Western College is the interdisciplinary college of Miami University. He has written several books including the textbook, “The Korean War: Challenges in Crisis, Credibility, and Command.”
Kaufman earned a bachelor’s degree at Brandeis University and a doctorate at Rice University.
