FMU Cagers Listed in Final NCAA Hoop Stats

FLORENCE, S.C. - Three Francis Marion University basketball players are listed in the final 2003-04 NCAA Division II statistical reports.

FMU senior forward Randy Williams (Summerville), junior forward Louis McCullough (Goose Creek), and senior guard Jarron Hinton (Lima, Ohio) appeared in the end-of-the-season men’s report.

Williams ranked 36th in field goal percentage (56.9%), while McCullough was 42nd in blocked shots (1.5 per game) and Hinton ranked 42nd in steals (2.1 per game) and 45th in assists (5.3 per game).

Hinton ranked 32nd in assists as a junior in 2002-03 with a 5.4 per game average.

As a team, the 27-4 Patriot men ranked sixth in winning percentage (.871); seventh in field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot only 39.1 percent; 31st in rebounding margin (+5.2 per game); 27th in scoring margin (+10.2 points per game); and 39th in scoring defense (66.0 points per game).

The team’s record was a 14-game improvement over the previous season, the best mark of any Peach Belt Conference team, and the second straight year the Patriots have held that distinction.  FMU earned its first-ever NCAA Division II national tournament invitation and advanced to the round of Sweet Sixteen before falling to the eventual national champions.
