FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior Fredrik Ohlsson has been named to the NCAA Division II PING All-America honorable mention squad, as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Ohlsson, a native of Goteborg, Sweden, makes the All-America team for the third straight year. He earned first-team recognition in 2003 and was a third-team choice in 2002. He is also a three-time All-Peach Belt Conference performer.
He played every round (31) this past season and led FMU with a 73.26 stroke average. He posted eight top-10 finishes in 2003-04, including earning medalist honors at last fall’s AFLAC/Cougar Invitational Tournament in Columbus, Ga., and finishing tied for seventh at the recent NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament. In 10 of his rounds this year, he shot even or below par.
The Patriots ended this past year with a 108-55-6 record, including the program’s third Peach Belt Conference crown. FMU, the 2003 Division II national champion, placed eighth at the 2004 Division II Southeast Regional Tournament.
Ohlsson did not miss a tournament after his Patriot debut in March 2001, and compiled a career stroke average of 73.56. He owns the FMU single-season record for lowest average, 72.3 in 2002-03, and shot what is believed to be the lowest round in the program’s history, a 64 in the opening round of the 2002 regional tournament.
