FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University women’s volleyball coach Sonny Kirkpatrick has announced the addition of two players to the 2004 team roster: Jessica Bartlett of Richmond, Va., and Heather Dozier of Marion.
Bartlett, a 6-0 outside hitter, returns to the Patriot program after playing last season at Virginia Commonwealth University. After graduating from The Governor’s School (in Virginia), she signed with FMU and played for the Patriots during the 2002 season. She led Francis Marion in hitting percentage (.242) and was second in kills (339) and total blocks (85).
Last year at VCU, Bartlett played in all 31 matches with 196 kills, a .198 hitting percentage, and 55 total blocks. She will have two years of eligibility left at FMU.
Dozier, a 5-5 defensive specialist, is a 2004 graduate of Pee Dee Academy, where she played under the direction of coach Lorie Ann Rogers. An All-Region performer, she helped lead the Lady Eagles to three consecutive SCISA state AA titles in 2001, 2002, and 2003.
The two join four incoming freshmen that earlier signed letters of intent to play for the Patriots. Francis Marion returns five letterwinners, including three starters, from last season’s 11-24 team.
