FMU Student-Athletes Excel in the Classroom

FLORENCE, S.C. – Forty-six Francis Marion University student-athletes were recognized for their work in the classroom by being named to the school’s President’s List or Dean’s List for the 2004 spring semester.

Nineteen student-athletes were named to the President’s List, including 13 who earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the semester, the highest possible ratio a student can receive.

The 13 were Jackie Ackman (volleyball), Amber Gaines (softball), Michelle Ghere (women’s basketball), Jamie Gustason (women’s soccer), Morgan Harwood (women’s soccer), Robert Hill (men’s tennis), Jennifer Howard (women’s basketball), Taylor Poston (men’s soccer), Jonathan Runion (men’s soccer), Katie Riley (women’s soccer), Brittany Rothenbach (women’s soccer), Jessica Skarzinski (women’s soccer), and Deborah Sampson (women’s soccer student assistant coach).

To be named to the President’s List, a student must have taken at least 12 semester hours and have earned a 3.75 or higher grade point average (on a 4.0 system) for the semester.

Twenty-seven student-athletes, representing nine different sports, were named to the Dean’s List.  Those named to the Dean’s List recorded a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.749.

These honorees represent more than a quarter of the approximately 175 students that competed in intercollegiate athletics at FMU this past year.
