FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University golf coach Mark Gaynor has announced that Aengus McAllister of Dublin, Ireland, will transfer from Iona College and join the Patriot program for the 2004-05 season.
McAllister played two seasons for the NCAA Division I Gaels, and will have two years of eligibility at FMU.
This past season, he compiled a 75.06 stroke average in nine tournaments, and was Iona’s top finisher six times. He recorded five Top 20 finishes, including two Top 10s.
As a freshman, he placed fifth at the 2003 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship Tournament.
“Aengus will make an immediate impact on our squad,” said Gaynor. “He is a mature and experienced player. In transferring, he was looking for a program where he could play year-round at a high level of competition, and have the opportunity to develop into the best golfer he can be.”
Francis Marion, the 2003 NCAA Division II national champion, finished this past season with a 108-55-6 record. The Patriots captured the school’s third Peach Belt Conference crown and placed eighth at the 2004 Division II Southeast Regional Tournament.
