FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University women’s basketball head coach Valecia Tedder has announced that Jessica Guarneri of Piscataway, N.J., has joined her staff as an assistant coach.
Guarneri’s primary responsibilities will include recruiting, on-floor coaching, individual player workouts, pre- and post-season workouts, and helping in the area of academic support for team members.
Guarneri replaces Janna Magette, who left FMU to join the women’s basketball staff at Charlotte.
Guarneri comes to Francis Marion after serving as a student assistant coach at Wingate University for the 2003-04 season.
She recently earned a B.S. degree in marketing from Wingate, where she was a Kodak/WBCA honorable mention All-American in 2003.
As a senior, she led Wingate and the South Atlantic Conference in scoring (19.5 ppg), rebounding (10.1 rpg), and field goal percentage (61.0%), while sharing the conference’s “Player of the Year” award.
A 6-1 center, Guarneri played her first three collegiate seasons at UNC Asheville, scoring over 1,000 career points, twice earning first-team All-Big South Conference honors, and being selected to the Big South’s All-Freshman Team in 2000.
Guarneri graduated from Piscataway High School, where she was a three-sport athlete (basketball, field hockey, and softball).
Over the past four summers, she has worked summer camps at Virginia Tech.
FMU returns six lettermen from last season’s 14-13 squad that placed third in the final Peach Belt Conference’s North Division standings.
