FMU Golf Team Hosts Raines Development Group Intercollegiate Tournament, Sept. 20-21
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University golf team will play host to the 20th-annual Raines Development Group Intercollegiate Tournament, Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 20-21) at the Country Club of South Carolina.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday on the par 72, 7,062-yard CCSC course.
Thirteen schools will participate: Belmont Abbey College, Campbell University, Charleston Southern University, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina University, Davidson College, East Carolina University, FMU, Georgia College & State University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Old Dominion University, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
FMU finished 11th in last year’s event, which was won by Jacksonville State University.
The Patriots placed fifth in an 11-team field at their season-opening tournament two weeks ago at Kiawah Island, while battling the forces of Hurricane Frances.
FMU junior Aengus McAllister led head coach Mark Gaynor’s charges with a fifth-place finish and a two-round score of 152. Other Patriot team members include junior Luke Hart (77.5 stroke average), sophomore Ricky Fox (78.5), junior Battle Hartman (81.0), junior Adam Hart (81.5), and freshman Jacob Tveit (83.0).
The Raines Development Group is a family-owned business that owns and operates two Florence hotels: Springhill Suites by Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott, both located at the intersection of I-95 and I-20 near the Florence Civic Center.
