FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University senior goalkeeper Jackie Bateman has been named the Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 24.
The Southern Pines, N.C., native recorded back-to-back shutouts in a pair of FMU road wins last week, and is currently working on a scoreless streak of more than 306 minutes. She faced eight shots and recorded two saves in a 2-0 win at Wingate University on Oct. 20, and then faced eight shots and registered five saves in a 1-0 victory at Lander University on Oct. 23.
Bateman’s blanking of Lander was her team-record eighth shutout of the season, eclipsing the old mark of seven set by Kristen Banach in 1995.
During the week, she lowered her goals against average to 0.92. She has helped Francis Marion to a 10-3-0 overall record and a 5-1-0 mark in the PBC. In the six conference matches, Bateman has allowed only three goals.
FMU plays at UNC Pembroke, Wednesday night at 7 p.m., before concluding its regular season schedule on Saturday with a Senior Day match against USC Upstate at noon. If the Patriots win their final two contests, it would give FMU its first PBC regular-season championship.
Bateman ranks sixth in the conference in goals against average, is tied for second in total shutouts, and is seventh in total saves (44).
Bateman previously played at Limestone College, where in 2002 she set that school’s record for shutouts in a season (6), before transferring to FMU in 2003. She was an All-Conference performer at Pinecrest High School.
