FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University senior forward Cyprian Gillingham has been named the Peach Belt Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 31.
The Hollywood, Md., native scored two goals in each of Francis Marion’s wins during the week. She scored both Patriot goals in a 2-1 conference win at UNC Pembroke and then tallied two more scores in a 5-1 victory over USC Upstate that clinched Francis Marion’s first-ever PBC regular-season championship. Those four goals came on her only four shots of the week.
Gillingham is third on the Patriot squad in scoring with nine goals and four assists. In her four-year career, the 5-6 forward has 21 goals and 11 assists. Off the field, she is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national college athlete honor society, Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and is the reigning Miss FMU.
Gillingham, a former All-State performer at Leonardtown High School, is the third Patriot to earn PBC Player of the Week honors this season, joining sophomore forward Ashley Fortune and senior goalkeeper Jackie Bateman.
By virtue of FMU’s win over Georgia College & State University in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Wednesday, the Patriots will host the tournament semifinals and finals this weekend.
Top-seeded FMU (13-3-0) will face fourth-seeded Clayton College & State University (12-4-1) in Saturday’s first semifinal at noon. Second-seeded USC Upstate (12-2-2) will face third-seeded University of North Florida (12-4-2) in the second semifinal match at 2:30 p.m.
Sunday’s championship match will begin at 2 p.m. Admission to all matches is free.
