FLORENCE, S.C. – Three Francis Marion University soccer players were named to the All-Tournament Team following the recent Peach Belt Conference men’s and women’s tournaments.
Senior forward Cyprian Gillingham and junior forward Katie Riley were both named to the All-Tournament squad at the conclusion of the women’s tournament. Riley, a native of Hampstead, Md., scored FMU’s lone goal in a 1-0 overtime win over Georgia College & State University in the quarterfinals, and then tallied both Patriot scores in a 3-2 semifinal loss to Clayton College & State University. Gillingham, a native of Hollywood, Md., had six shots in FMU’s two matches.
The Patriot women finished the year 13-4-0, including winning the PBC regular-season title.
Senior back Charlie Mitchell of Raleigh, N.C., was named to the men’s All-Tournament Team. The Patriots fell to 20th-ranked Clayton College & State University 2-1 in a quarterfinal match. FMU ended the year 8-10-1, with seven of the losses being by one goal.
