FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Division II South Regional Championship Meet, Saturday morning (Nov. 6) in Memphis, Tenn.
The meets will be hosted by Christian Brothers University at the Shelby Farms complex, and will begin with the 10,000-meter men’s race at 9 a.m. (CST), followed by the 6,000-meter women’s race at 10:15 a.m.
The FMU men, who placed sixth at the recent Peach Belt Conference championships and who were 13th at last year’s regional meet, will be led by seniors Ryan Plexico and Ezekiel Koech, juniors Steven Creek and Bobby Sears, and freshmen Dmitri Virnig and Ariel Ortiz.
The Patriot women, who also finished sixth at the 2004 PBC Championship Meet, will be competing as a team in the region meet for the first time since 1999. FMU runners will include freshmen Codi Knock and Katie Grotzinger, junior Nicole Hoeppner, and sophomores Megan Coy and Erica Woo.
The top four women’s teams and the top three men’s teams, along with the top individual finishers, will advance to the NCAA Division II national championship meet, Nov. 20 in Evansville, Ind.
