FLORENCE, S.C. – For the second time in four weeks, Francis Marion University senior forward Louis McCullough has been named the Peach Belt Conference’s “Player of the Week,” this time for the week of Dec. 6-12.
In FMU’s only action last week, the 6-6 Goose Creek native scored 23 points on nine-of-10 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Patriots to an improbable 87-78 come-from-behind road win at Wingate University. He also blocked two shots and had one steal and one assist.
During the game, McCullough moved into fifth place on both the FMU career scoring list (1,494 points) and rebounding list (710 rebounds). Francis Marion trailed Wingate 60-47 at halftime, but outscored the Bulldogs 40-18 in the second stanza and held Wingate without a field goals over the final 9:18 of the game.
McCullough leads the PBC in rebounding (9.8 per game) and blocked shots (3.5 per game), is second in scoring at 22.2 points per game, and is third in field goal percentage at 61 percent.
McCullough, a 2004-05 first-team preseason All-American pick by Street & Smith’s College Basketball, has now earned “Player of the Week” honors six times in his career.
The 4-2 Patriots will not play again until Dec. 20 when they travel to Clinton, S.C., for a 7 p.m. match-up with Presbyterian College.
