FMU Baseball Team up to 14th in National Poll

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University baseball team won its opening three games of the 2004 campaign this past weekend and then moved up one slot to 14th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll released Monday (Feb. 2).

The 3-0 Patriots defeated Limestone College 7-2 and then swept a Sunday doubleheader from St. Andrews Presbyterian College 6-3 and 16-2.

Francis Marion plays its first road game of the season, Tuesday at Newberry College.  FMU will then return home to host St. Augustine’s College for a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Patriots, who spent the final 16 weeks of the 2003 season in the national poll, reaching as high as No. 12, were ranked 15th in the 2004 preseason poll.

Defending Division II national champion Central Missouri State University is ranked No. 1 in the latest poll, and in addition to the Patriots, five other Peach Belt Conference members appear in the Top 30.
