Patriot Baseball Team Now 16th in National Poll

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University baseball team dropped two spots to 16th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll released Monday (Feb. 9).

The 3-1 FMU squad lost its only game last week, 6-0 at Newberry College.

Francis Marion returns to action on Thursday when the Patriots travel to Clinton to take on Presbyterian College in a 2:30 p.m. start.  FMU will then open Peach Belt Conference play by hosting a three-game weekend series with fourth-ranked Georgia College & State University.  The two squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Patriots were ranked 15th in the 2004 preseason poll and 14th last week.

Defending Division II national champion Central Missouri State University is ranked No. 1 in the latest poll, and in addition to the Patriots, six other Peach Belt Conference members appear in the Top 30.
