McCullough Named PBC Player of the Week

FLORENCE, S.C. - Francis Marion University junior forward Louis McCullough has been named the Peach Belt Conference’s “Player of the Week” for the week of Feb. 2-8, his second weekly conference honor this season.

In two games, the 6-6 Goose Creek native averaged 23.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game.  He also blocked five shots and committed only three turnovers in 62 minutes.  He connected on 63.0 percent of his field goal attempts (17 of 27), including seven of 11 three-point shots, and was a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line.

He scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in an 87-49 win over USC Aiken on Feb. 4 and tallied 26 points and seven rebounds in a 111-92 victory over Columbus State University on Feb. 7.

During Saturday’s win, he passed former Patriot great Lou Ziebell and moved into 12th place on the FMU career scoring list with 1,172 points.  He is currently 11th on the career rebounding list with 581, third in career blocks (93), and tied for 14th in career steals (89). He is on the verge of becoming only the seventh FMU cager to amass 1,200 points and 600 rebounds.

McCullough has helped lead the Patriots to a 19-2 record and a No.16 national ranking.  For the season, he leads the squad in scoring (17.1 ppg), steals (41), and blocked shots (30), and is second in rebounding (8.2 rpg).  He ranks third in the PBC in scoring and second in three-point shooting at 46.6 percent.

McCullough, a second-team All-PBC selection last season, has now earned “Player of the Week” honors fours times in his career.

The Patriots play host to local PBC-rival UNC Pembroke, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
