FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University junior center fielder Betsy Bouknight has been named to the 2004 Peach Belt Conference All-Conference Softball Team.
Bouknight, a 5-3 left-handed hitting Leesville native, batted .359 and led FMU in runs scored (51), doubles (17), and stolen bases (23 in 25 attempts). The speedy leadoff batter also compiled four triples, three home runs, 29 runs batted in, a .543 slugging percentage, and a .379 on-base percentage.
In the field, she recorded four outfield assists and a .943 fielding percentage.
During the 2004 campaign, she recorded a team-best 10-game hitting streak along with 18 multiple-hit games and nine multiple-RBI games.
Bouknight has career totals of 133 runs scored and 70 stolen bases (77 attempts) in 146 games. She was a second-team All-Region selection in 2002.
She helped lead Francis Marion to a 35-17 record, a fourth-place showing during the PBC regular season, and a third-place finish at the recent Peach Belt Tournament. The Patriots are awaiting the May 3 announcement of the NCAA Division II national tournament field to see if they will receive the program’s first-ever invitation.
Bouknight is a product of Batesburg-Leesville High School, where as a senior she batted .392 and earned All-Area, All-Region, and All-State honors.
