FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University freshman right fielder Nick Stewart has been named the Peach Belt Conference “Player of the Week” for the week of March 15-21.
Stewart, a 6-3 200-pound Greenville native, batted .556 (10 for 18) with four extra-base hits and 13 runs batted in as the Patriots won three of five games. He also scored four runs and recorded a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .652 on-base percentage during the week.
He homered and drove in five runs in a 5-2 win over Coker College on March 17, drove in two runs during a 21-5 victory over St. Augustine’s College on March 18, and collected five hits in 10 at bats with six RBIs during last weekend’s three-game conference series with USC Spartanburg.
Stewart has hit safely in his last seven games and raised his season average to .367. He leads the team in triples (4), RBIs (26), and slugging percentage (.561), and shares the team lead with three home runs. He also shares the PBC lead in triples.
Stewart is a product of Greenville High School, where he twice earned All-Conference honors playing for coach Dave Delgado.
The 16-12 Patriots will return to action on Thursday when they play host to Wingate University in a 5 p.m. start. FMU will then travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to face fourth-ranked University of North Florida in a key three-game PBC series, Saturday and Sunday.
