FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior Natalie Taylor and sophomore Ashleigh Duffy were selected to the All-Tournament Team at this past weekend’s Peach Belt Conference women’s softball tournament in Spartanburg.
Taylor, a senior right-handed pitcher and designated hitter from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, batted .400 in FMU’s five games with four runs scored and one stolen base. She drove in the game winning run with a sacrifice fly in a 5-4 win over host USC Spartanburg during the final day’s action. On the mound, she posted a 2-1 record with a 3.41 earned run average, including the win in Francis Marion’s 6-3 victory over top-ranked and top-seeded Kennesaw State University on Saturday.
Duffy, an outfielder from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, batted .333 with two home runs and four RBIs, while playing errorless defense in the field.
Francis Marion won three of five tournament games in the three-day event and placed third, the program’s best finish ever, and put itself in the running for a possible bid to the NCAA Division II national tournament. The tournament field will be announced on May 3.
The Patriots, currently 35-17, tied for fourth during the PBC regular season with a program-best 12 conference wins.
