FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University senior right-hander Erin Jones has been named the Peach Belt Conference “Pitcher of the Week” for the week of April 12-28.
Jones, a 5-10 190-pound Dillon native, tossed a five-hit (all singles) shutout against 28th-ranked Lander University on Saturday, with FMU winning 4-0. He allowed only two Lander baserunners to reach second base, while throwing only 96 pitches in the one-hour-and-55-minute game. He struck out seven and walked no one. It was the only shutout in PBC play this past weekend.
The win improved Jones’ school record for career wins to 28, and his strikeout total moved him into second place on the PBC career strikeout list with 308.
In his three seasons at Francis Marion, he has recorded 28 complete games in 40 career starts.
This season, Jones is 7-3 with a 3.10 earned run average. He has 83 strikeouts in 93 innings, while walking only 18 batters.
Jones is a product of Dillon High School. He played his freshman year at Coastal Carolina University before transferring to FMU.
The 26-17 Patriots will conclude their 2004 campaign with a three-game non-conference series with North Greenville College, beginning with Friday’s Senior Night game at 6 p.m.
