FMU to host Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Jan. 13

Francis Marion University and the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce will host the seventh-annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Thursday, Jan. 13.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the McNair Science Building auditorium. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

Poet and storyteller Glenis Redmond will be the special guest. Redmond tells stories with poetry – from her life, her family, her African-American heritage and sensitive observations of the world around her.

This year’s celebration will also feature an essay contest as a tribute to King, “Celebrating the Legacy, Living the Dream.” The final two essays will be read at the celebration. The winner will be selected at the end of the program and will receive a cash award.

For more information about the celebration, call the chamber at 843-665-0515 or e-mail Mandy Dew at
