Michael P. “Perry” Grice has been named the Francis Marion University School of Business Outstanding Alumnus for 2005.
The award was presented during a breakfast on Feb. 11.
Grice is a two-time graduate of FMU, earning a B.B.A. degree in finance in 1988 and an M.B.A. degree in 1996. He is currently the vice president and co-owner of Grice’s Men’s Wear in Marion.
He previously worked as a financial analyst and controller at Blumenthal Mills Inc., and as assistant controller at Carolinas Hospital System.
Grice is very active in his community, serving on the Pee Dee Academy Board of Directors, the Historic Marion Revitalization Board, the Marion County Library Board, the City of Marion Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Marion Chamber of Commerce, of which he was president in 1998.
He is also involved in his church, Marion First Baptist, where he has served on the Deacon Board, taught Adult Sunday School and Children’s Bible Drills, and served on numerous committees. Grice is also a member of the FMU Alumni Advisory Board, and served on a panel at FMU’s M.B.A. Alumni Breakfast in 2000.
Grice is a member of the Men’s Apparel Clothiers Board, and was awarded the Sam Walton Business Leader Award by the Marion Chamber of Commerce. Grice and his father, H.M. Grice, were named the chamber’s Small-Business Persons of the Year in 2000, and have been recognized by the state Chamber of Commerce for excellence in business management.
Grice’s Men’s Wear has been featured in “The Florence and Greater Pee Dee Business Journal,” and on WBTW-TV’s “Cecil’s World.”
Grice’s wife, Karen, is also a graduate of FMU, and they have two daughters, Lauren, 13, and Carmen, 9.
