FMU Planetarium to show "Voyage to the Outer Planets" program, Oct. 9

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Dooley Planetarium on the campus of Francis Marion University will present a program titled "Voyage to the Outer Planets," Sunday (Oct. 9).

The program will begin at 3 p.m. and admission is free. The planetarium, located on the second floor of the Cauthen Educational Media Center, will open its doors at 2:30 p.m., and no admittance will be allowed once viewing begins.

In 1977, two spacecraft, Voyager 1 and 2 space probes, were launched to the outer planets. This program will trace their missions to the outer worlds and see what new things scientists have learned because of them.

Since its opening in 1978, the planetarium has regularly shown public programs on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. The program on Oct. 23 is titled "Stars of the Fall and Winter"

For additional information about the planetarium, call planetarium director Jeannette M. Myers at 843-661-1441, or visit its website at
