FMU concert choir to present Christmas program, Dec. 4

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University Concert Choir will present its annual Christmas concert, Sunday, Dec. 4.

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in the Hyman Fine Arts Center’s Adele Kassab Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

This year’s concert will feature traditional Christmas favorites such as “O Holy Night,” as well as some less-familiar holiday tunes such as “Thirty Second Fa La La.” The German folksong “When Christmas Morn Is Dawning” will be performed, as well as the Mexican-American Christmas song “Vamos todos a Belen.”

Other selections will include “Unto Us A Child Is Born,” “O magnum mysterium,” the Ukrainian folk tune “Sleigh Bells,” and “Christmas in a Minute,” which is based on the “Minute Waltz” by Frederic Chopin.

The program will also feature three numbers by the Concert Choir Ensemble, directed by student director Zac Calcutt of Florence. Calcutt is the recipient of the Adrian R. Ketcham Scholarship.

Concert Choir members Courtney Dease of Scranton and Amber Wilks of Florence are recipients of the Adele Kassab Music Scholarship.

The Concert Choir is under the direction of associate professor of music and choral director Sue Butler Orr, and is accompanied by pianist Rebecca M. Culbertson and Chip Culbertson, percussion.
