FMU Athletics To Hold Auction on Saturday (Feb. 12)
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University Athletic Department will hold its seventh-annual Swamp Fox Club Benefit Auction, Saturday (Feb. 12).
The auction is being held in conjunction with that day’s Homecoming 2005 festivities and the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader with Augusta State University. The women’s game will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 4 p.m.
The auction will consist of two parts: a silent auction beginning at 1:30 p.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. (or at the conclusion of halftime of the men’s game) and a live auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. The silent auction will be held in the Smith University Center gymnasium and the live auction will be held in the Smith University Center commons area.
Participants will have the opportunity to place bids on items in the silent auction until bidding closes at 5:30 p.m. (or the end of halftime of the men’s game), and then the merchandise will be awarded.
Tickets for the live auction are $5 for Swamp Fox Club members (Coaches Club level and above) and $10 for all others. Participants in the live auction must be 21 years old. Tickets are available from the Francis Marion athletic office (843-661-1238) and can also be purchased at the door.
There is no admission charge to the silent auction, and admission to that day’s basketball games is also free.
All proceeds from the event will go to assist student-athletes and the Patriot athletic program. This year, nearly 100 items have been donated from local and national outlets.
Among the items in the silent auction will be gift certificates, sports apparel, and numerous autographed items (Andre Dawson baseball and bat, Philadelphia 76ers poster, Grant Hill picture, Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball, Dale Earnhardt picture and tire fragment, John Smoltz baseball).
Among the items in the live auction are vacation/getaway packages; fishing trips; golf packages; two tickets to the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 race at Darlington; an autographed Philadelphia 76ers basketball; Chipper Jones autographed bat; Peyton Manning autographed jersey and football, Wade Boggs autographed baseball; Bobby Richardson autographed baseball; autographed picture of the 1955 New York Yankees starting infield; and Winchester shotguns.
