FLORENCE, S.C. – After sweeping two games from 11th-ranked Augusta State University this past weekend, the Francis Marion University baseball team entered the national poll for the first time this season, debuting at No. 29 in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll released Monday (Feb. 28).
The third and final game of the FMU/ASU series, suspended by rain with the score tied at 3-3 on Sunday, was canceled on Monday when FMU’s Cormell Field was deemed too wet for play.
The 9-5 Patriots will play at local-rival Coker College, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., before hosting the Cobras on Wednesday.
Following the two-game set with Coker, Francis Marion will play host to 30th-ranked USC Aiken for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series, Friday and Saturday. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
All five of FMU’s losses this season have been to nationally ranked opponents. Eight Peach Belt squads are listed in this week’s poll, while unbeaten Florida Southern College (15-0) occupies the No. 1 spot.
