FLORENCE, S.C. – The Francis Marion University baseball team climbed one position to ninth in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, released on Monday (March 28).
The Patriots are 21-9-1, and have won 10 of their last 13 contests. The ninth-place ranking is the second highest ever for the Patriot program.
FMU will play two non-conference road games this week: Tuesday (2 p.m.) at St. Andrews Presbyterian College and Wednesday (3 p.m.) at Limestone College. The Tuesday game is a make-up of a contest rained out earlier this season.
Francis Marion will return home this weekend to host Columbus State University in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series. The squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
With an 11-9-1 conference mark, the Patriots are fifth in the tightly packed PBC standings, one-and-a-half games behind first-place Kennesaw State University (11-7). Eight of FMU’s nine losses this season have been to nationally ranked opponents.
This is the fifth consecutive week the Patriots have appeared in the Top 30 poll.
Six Peach Belt squads are again listed in this week’s poll. Central Missouri State University (24-3) moved up two positions to assume the No. 1 spot in this week’s poll.
