FLORENCE, SC - Francis Marion University junior Kevin Taylor has been named the Peach Belt Conference men’s tennis Player of the Week for the two-week period ending March 7.
Taylor, a 6-5 junior from Benoni, South Africa, compiled a 5-0 record playing at the No. 1 singles position and a 4-1 mark playing No. 1 and 2 doubles during the two-week period. He helped lead Francis Marion to a 5-1 record.
In those six matches, Taylor’s singles wins included a 6-4, 6-4 win over ninth-ranked Robert Jendelund of Armstrong Atlantic State University; a 6-3, 6-4 win over 32nd-ranked Peter Kurhajec of Lincoln Memorial University; and a 7-5, 6-2 win over 44th-ranked Felipe Castanheira of Lees-McRae College.
Among his doubles wins were an 8-6 win over the fifth-ranked team of Castanheira and Shane Horan from Lees-McRae, and his lone doubles loss was an 8-6 decision to the nation’s 20th-ranked duo of Sergio Espinsoa and Carlos Garcia of Tusculum College.
For the season, Taylor is ranked No.16 among singles players in NCAA Division II with a 10-2 mark, and he is ranked 17th in doubles competition with a 10-2 record.
The 23rd-ranked Patriot men, with a 10-3 record, return to action on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they play host to 30th-ranked Augusta State University.
