FLORENCE, S.C. – After concluding a 4-0 week, Francis Marion University moved up two positions to 8th in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 poll, released on Monday (April 25).
The Patriots ended their regular-season schedule on Sunday with a six-game winning streak and a 34-14-1 mark. Francis Marion must now wait for the announcement of the NCAA Division II national tournament field, to be released on May 15, to see if the Patriots receive a post-season invitation.
This is the Patriots’ second straight week in the Top 10, the third week in the Top 10 this season, and the ninth consecutive week the Patriots have appeared in the Top 30 poll. Seventh is the highest ranking FMU has ever attained.
Francis Marion’s 34 victories is the second-highest season total in team history. It is also FMU’s second 30-win season in the past three years, and the program’s seventh all-time.
With a 17-12-1 conference mark, the Patriots are third in the tightly packed PBC standings, approximately one game out of second place. FMU has concluded its PBC slate, while other conference schools have several PBC series remaining. Eight of FMU’s 14 losses this season have been to nationally ranked opponents.
Seven Peach Belt squads are listed in this week’s poll, including two in the Top 10. Delta State University (43-5) ascended to the top spot in this week’s poll, replacing Central Missouri State University.
