Former FMU Softball Player Killed in Traffic Accident
    KANSAS CITY, MO - Former Francis Marion University softball player Jodie Christa Hatzenbihler, 25, was killed in a traffic accident Saturday (April 9).

    A native of Salem, Ore., Hatzenbihler was an outfielder and catcher on three Patriot squads, 1999-2001.  She batted .275 in 158 career games with 68 runs scored and 48 runs batted in.  She was named FMU's most valuable player as a freshman in 1999 after hitting .304.

    She left FMU after the 2001 season to attend the Linfield School of Nursing in Portland, where she earned the bachelor of science degree in nursing.

    She was working as a registered nurse at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

    A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home in Topeka, Kan.  Another memorial service will be held in Salem at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 18.
